Only God knows

We got the results of Jane’s MRI yesterday and they were not what we had hoped for.  Linda got an email from Dr. Melisko letting us know that Jane will be off the study.  Here is the text of the email:

“I believe you have seen the results of Jane’s brain MRI which I was able to review in detail yesterday and compare to prior scan reports in detail. Unfortunately there has been disease progression and she will need to come off study. I plan to call Jane later this morning. This is very distressing news, but you have been preparing for this for months. I will follow up with Dr. Lin in Boston and Dr. Peereboom in Cleveland to find out the status of their trials.  I did meet with one of Nancy’s colleagues from Dan aFarber and we are working on a trial of a drug called Neratinib (similar to Lapatinib but hopefully better) for progressing brain metastases. The protocol is written but it will be at least 6 months before we can get it open at UCSF. It may be sooner in Boston.

What’s Next

Today Jane will get a transfusion, her red blood cell count was low.

We will talk Dr. Miyashiro today to see if Jane qualifies for Cyber/Gama Knife surgery again.  Jane does not really like this procedure because of the steroids.  We will also take some time to talk with Dr. Melisko concerning the trials mentioned in the email.

Prayer

Please keep us in prayer. Pray for Jane’s transfusion, last time she broke out in hives.  Pray that God gives us the wisdom to make wise decisions.  Pray that we keep positive attitudes, this was hard news to hear and continue to pray for Jane’s healing.

  9. Dear Jane, Ray, Samuel, & Gabe…

God has really put you all – particularly Janey – on my heart. I know there are times when this world is so heavy- on our heart, mind as well as our back. I want you all to remember to “look up” as our Savior has overcome this world. In the end, He wins, thus we win. I will pray that our Lord’s face continues to shine upon you. I will pray that the Spirit shows his strength over our soul. I love each and every one of you. Tell the boys, “hi!”

    Mucho blessings~
